MISSION STATEMENT OF THE WIC PROGRAM
The Montana WIC Program provides low-income pregnant, breast-feeding, and
postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five who have a
nutritional risk, with:
• Nutrition education and counseling, referral, and follow-up on the
nutrition and health problems found so the problems can be corrected;
• Access to preventive health programs and referral and follow-up to private
and public health care;
• Selected foods to add specific nutrients to their diets during the most
rapid times of growth and development; and
The Montana WIC Program is working to increase the number of women who
breastfeed by teaching them the health and cost benefits for both the mother
and the infant.
The Montana WIC Program is working to help women have a healthy pregnancy
and an infant born at a good birth weight.
The Montana WIC Program is working to reduce anemia (low iron in the blood).
The Montana WIC Program is working to prevent Baby Bottle Tooth Decay.
