The jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court and the juvenile department extends to both “Youth in Need of Supervision,” and “Delinquent Youths.”
With respect to Delinquent youths (those who have committed law violations), the department is involved in investigating the alleged offense, and assumes responsibility for recommending appropriate dispositions to the juvenile court, carrying out juvenile court dispositional orders, including such components as community service, restitution, probation, counseling, and when appropriate, commitment to the Child and Family Services Division of the Department of Public Health and Human Services for placement.
